Deadline Looms for Obama on Gay-Marriage Brief

The Obama administration has until midnight Thursday to decide whether it wants to weigh in on the gay-marriage case from California now at the Supreme Court, and someone’s likely to be disappointed. Activists want President Barack Obama to put forth a full-throated endorsement of a constitutional right for gays to marry, while most conservative Republicans believe California citizens were exercising their rights when they voted in 2008 to ban the practice in the state. Meanwhile, nearly 300 businesses have filed a legal brief with the Supreme Court arguing for gay rights, the latest sign of support for same-sex couples in the corporate world. So where does the president come down? . . . . .
