The U.S. Attorney’s office is sending almost half of its employees home today on indefinite unpaid leave due to the government shutdown, according to spokeswoman Jeanne Cooney.
Work on civil cases will halt during the shutdown. The remaining staff of the U.S. Attorney’s Office will stay on to handle criminal cases. The attorneys and support staff who remain working during the shutdown will not be paid during the interim.
The federal courts and federal public defender’s office will remain open through Oct. 15 at full staff levels and with full pay.
