U.S. Patent Office Cancels Washington Redskins’ Trademarks

An appeal board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has canceled the trademark registrations of the Washington Redskins on the grounds that the team's controversial name is "disparaging to Native Americans." The ruling on Wednesday is a victory for critics of the team's name who say the word Redskins was offensive to Native Americans and over the last year stepped up pressure on Redskins' owner Dan Snyder to change it.
